![]() ![]() ![]() I have made lifelong friends from the gym … and I am always looking to make new gym friends. Also to the newbies, you really don’t need all that makeup on, you should sweat it off if you are really working out. Also, put your equipment away like the rest of us. But do understand in the front are the real exercisers. … My suggestion: Get to the back and see what is going on, and when you can do it, then move up towards the front. “When I really enjoy is when new people (usually New Year’s resolutioners) come in and get right up front, irregardless that that spot had been someone’s who comes in regularly, and then they just die trying to keep up with the instructor. They are also the ones who have to make all kind of noise when they work out. Most gyms have signs to put your weights back, but ‘meatheads’ don’t think that it pertains to them. “On occasion, I go to the weight room, and sometimes ‘meatheads’ leave millions of pounds of weight on a leg press or chest press, and I have to take their weights off to do my workout. If what you have to say is so important, leave the room. … I have no problems giving the ‘evil eye’ and then shushing them, but I shouldn’t have to. ![]() “I really dislike when women (most fitness classes are female) think their conversation is so important that others have to strain to hear the instructor. If you are dropping a weight from shoulder height, you are using heavier weight than you should lift.” … There are many more, but let me finish with the guy who drops the weights he is using from shoulder height. This prevents anyone else from getting a weight until they have finished. Then there is the person who goes to the weight rack, picks up two and begins to curl them while standing two feet from the rack. He occupies three stations when he should be working one at a time. “The worst offender in the gym is the guy (almost always a guy) who works out at one station and leaves his water, phone or whatever at that station and goes to another and does the same thing there to hold it also, and then goes to a third station. Put up a sign, especially above the dumbbell rack.” Doing this, instead of moving away, of course blocks off the rack from anyone else who needs to retrieve or replace dumbbells. “One of the most common and annoying involves people who approach the barbell or dumbbell rack, pick up the barbell or dumbell, and stand right there to do their move.
